If you or someone you know suspects that you may have ADHD, the first step is making an appointment with your GP to discuss your symptoms.
If it's appropriate for you to be referred, your GP will do so.
Unfortunately, the waiting times are many years long in some areas of the UK!
You have the option to use "the right to choose" for your assessment and diagnosis.

The Dandelion ParadigmThe dandelion paradigm flips the traditional deficit view of neurodivergence on its head.
The Orchid vs. Dandelion Construct
In traditional developmental psychology, individuals are often categorised using the orchid/dandelion metaphor: orchids require highly specific, delicate conditions to bloom, while dandelions are seen as common, stubborn weeds capable of growing anywhere.
Reframing the "Weed"
Within a strength-based framework, calling a dandelion a "weed" is simply a matter of perspective—it is merely a flower growing where traditional systems didn't expect it. Dandelions are resilient, deeply rooted, highly adaptable, and carry vital medicinal and ecological value. They don't need to be fixed or cultivated into orchids; they simply need their natural strengths recognised rather than eradicated.
Systemic Adaptation & Universal Design
Rather than forcing neurodivergent individuals to fit into rigid, monolithic environments, educational and professional spaces must be designed to allow diverse minds to thrive naturally. True inclusion shifts the focus away from forcing individuals to conform and toward altering the environment to reduce unnecessary friction and cognitive load.
Deep Roots and Seed DispersalThe dandelion's deep taproot represents deep-seated resilience, lived experience, and persistent curiosity. The seeds—lightweight, mobile, and far-reaching—symbolise the sharing of knowledge, community connection, and broad-scale advocacy that takes root wherever it lands.
